Porter's SUMMER Programs
Located in the center of Farmington, Connecticut, Porter’s is a college preparatory boarding and day school for girls in grades nine through 12. Founded in 1843 by lifelong scholar and educator, Sarah Porter, our school’s dynamic, rigorous approach to education prepares girls to expand their minds and grow into socially engaged, confident young women.
Our Summer Programs are designed to provide girls the opportunity to experience Porter's academic, artistic, athletic and residential curriculum and community. Girls thrive in our supportive and collaborative environment where curiosity and confidence are encouraged, and they complete their programs with a greater understanding of all they can accomplish as informed, bold, resourceful, ethical citizens. Porter's Summer Programs are for girls entering grades seven through nine. Pricing, except for Porter's GLLI, is $1,400 for each session, inclusive of all meals, housing and activities.

Porter’s Speak Up: Writing and Storytelling Workshop with Matthew Dicks
At Porter’s Speak Up: Writing and Storytelling Workshop girls will learn to about storytelling, improve their communications skills, develop their writing abilities, challenge themselves, and gain confidence in their writing and voice. Matthew Dicks is the internationally bestselling author of the novels Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, Something Missing, Unexpectedly, Milo, The Perfect Comeback of Caroline Jacobs, and the upcoming The Other Mother. His novels have been translated into more than 25 languages worldwide.
Matthew is a 23-time Moth StorySLAM champion and four-time GrandSLAM champion whose stories have been featured on their nationally syndicated Moth Radio Hour and their weekly podcast. He has also told stories for This American Life, TED, The Colin McEnroe Show, The Story Collider, The Liar Show, Literary Death Match, The Mouth, and many others.
Invest in Girls is a week long program that teaches girls financial concepts, exposes them to professional women role models, and introduces them to financial services, companies, and career paths in finance to empower them to become tomorrow's leaders. Girls will take Industry trips to either New York City or Boston. The IIG industry exposure trips are an experiential learning opportunity for girls to meet professional women working in finance and financial services. It allows girls to experience a physical office space, and allows them to leave with new knowledge, connections and career path opportunities in the financial services.
Porter’s Global Language and Leadership Institute (GLLI) (ESL)
Dates: Sunday, July 9 - Saturday, July 29, 2017 (Limited to 20 Girls)
Porter’s invites international middle school girls to participate in a three-week English immersion program. GLLI prepares girls for the demands of a rigorous American preparatory school by providing instruction on culture and communication, American Boarding school norms, leadership training and the application process. The program includes courses focused on language learning and preparation for the rigorous independent school environment and application process. The afternoon and evening programs immerse girls in the culture of an American boarding school through leadership workshops, experiential field trips, recreational opportunities, and a robust residential program. Girls are fully incorporated into Porter’s Summer Programs with American roommates, camp-wide social and cultural activities as well as exclusive cultural field trips that explore Miss Porter’s School beautiful and important historic location in New England.
The Model United Nations Club is one of the most challenging and rewarding extracurricular programs offered at Miss Porter's School. This exciting summer program is designed to teach girls about civics, current events, effective communication, and global perspectives through engaging and interactive lessons and exercises. Participants will enjoy making new friends as they enhance their research, public speaking, policy writing, and collaborative skills in preparation for a two-day Model UN-style conference at Porter’s. Students will leave the program with new passion for and knowledge about our dynamic and global world.
Porter’s STEAM Institute
Sunday, July 23 - Saturday, July 29, 2017 (Limited to 20 Girls)
Porter’s STEAM Institute will incorporate concepts of Art and Design into the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The interdisciplinary model of STEM+Art, which is STEAM, fosters innovative thinking for 21st century learning. STEAM engages girls in studying STEM concepts, encouraging them to work collaboratively to understand complex problems and inspiring them to develop creative and artistic solutions.
Porter’s graduates leaders who have the vision, determination, character, and capacity to shape a changing world. Sarah Porter Leadership Institute Level 1 offers girls opportunities to learn, practice, and hone the necessary skills to be a strong female leader. Each day, girls will encounter exciting challenges to facilitate discovery of their personal leadership styles. Leadership activities will focus on problem solving, skill development, teamwork, and trust. Guest speakers, community service, and a visit to a ropes course provide forums for personal reflection and goal setting.
Sarah Porter Leadership Institute Level 2
Dates: Sunday, July 23 - Saturday, July 29, 2017 (Limited to 20 Girls)
Girls who have attended the Sarah Porter Leadership Institute Level 1 gain more extensive leadership experience in Level 2 as they learn to participate both as team members and as leaders as they resolve conflicts, solve problems, and take risks. The program includes an off campus two-night camping and whitewater rafting trip, community service in the Hartford area, and a culminating experience on the high ropes.
