Porter's Soccer started the season with a 5-0 win vs. Class B opponents Cheshire Academy. It took the team a little while to find a rhythm on the ball and get used to a change in the system. Ten minutes in, Porter’s worked the ball from the back to the front with some quick exchanges before the opponent's keeper stopped Carlyn Kosienski '19 scoring from close range. Sophomore Natalie Godoy found Sam Halligan '21 in the attacking third who then beat a defender before hitting the corner of the net from 18 yards. Soon after Halligan '21 played a nice pass to Kyla Gallagher '20 who took a touch before sliding the ball home to make the score 2-0 to the girls in green. With just seconds remaining in the half, debutant Pia Davis '21 ran onto a reverse pass and hit a shot that the keeper parried into the path of Kayleen Procanik '19 who made no mistake from 5 yards out. Porter's Soccer dominated the second half as defenders Katie Konin '19, Gabby Owens 19' Meg Keating '20 and Sam Vertifeuille '20 kept everything in front of them and started many attacks utilizing the passing range of Jenna Hall '20. Gallagher '20 got her second of the afternoon after running onto another Halligan '21 pass and then Gallagher '20 turned provider for Procanik '19 to get her second of the day completing the scoring.
It was great to see the Porter's Soccer parents enjoy a Saturday tailgate again. Next up is an away game vs. Class B opponents Marianapolis on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
