Porter’s JV Volleyball opened the season with a win over archrival Ethel Walker, carrying the day in straight sets. Tyler Smith ’20 was an impressive presence throughout the court, serving, defending, and attacking well. Captain Alexia Cusano ’20 proved a very capable setter and defender, while Captain Carolyn Nida ’19 served skillfully as libero. Porter’s front line was stout throughout the game, with Sasha Provost ’21 and Angela Yuan ’21 making several plays. Haley Baum ’20 blocked multiple hits, showing impressive skill and awareness. Scout Davis ’21, Maddie Guilmartin ’21, and Lucinda De Laney ‘20 all racked up points serving, in addition to making smart plays on the court. Additionally, Cassie Alwang ’20, Susie Sun ’20, and Susan Zhang ’21 were integral to keeping balls in play and setting up scoring opportunities. On the whole, Porter’s looked comfortable on the court, communicating well and moving with purpose. The team looks forward to our next opponent, Westover School, on 19 September.
