Porter's Varsity Soccer defeated Founders League opponents Westminster on Wednesday afternoon. The team started the game with a good tempo and combined well in the final third. For the first 15 minutes, Porter's Soccer controlled the game and had a few chances to score. Laura Gouvin '20 created two 1 on 1's for herself and an opportunity for Kyla Gallagher '20 but the score remained 0-0. Towards the later stages of the half Lauren Schramm '20 made a late run and hit the top of the bar from 20 yards. Westminster grew into the game and caused Porter's a few problems forcing the girls in green to play on the counter. Jenna Hall '20 punched a dangerous shot over the bar as Porter's finished the half under a little bit of pressure. Halftime consisted of a tactical discussion with and without the ball so that the team was able to influence the game as a team in the second half. Within minutes of the restart, Schramm '20 threw the ball to Carlyn Kosienski '19 who beat three players before driving the ball in at the near post. Only a couple of minutes later Gouvin '20 hit a first time ball over the top that enabled Gallagher '20 the opportunity to put the score at 2-0. Gallagher '20 then had another opportunity to make it 3-0 with only 8 minutes gone in the second half but the Westminster Keeper stood up to the challenge. Hall '20, Meghan Keating '20, Katie Konin '19, Gabby Owens '19, Molly Andrews '22, and Schramm '20 once again worked hard to restrict the opponents any time or space in the defensive third.
Next up Porter's Soccer (7-0) face last years Class B league winners and New England finalists Pomfret (5-1) to Kiki field (3:30pm) in what should be a very exciting game.
