Porter’s JV Volleyball won a thrilling game against Hopkins over Parent’s Weekend, 3-2. Porter’s showed its progress in terms of both its talent and resilience in this victory. JV was down 3 players, including starter Haley Baum ’20 on the front line. However, every player stepped up, with several playing positions that were unfamiliar. After going up 2-0, Porter’s dropped the next two sets to the scrappy and talented Hopkin’s crew. However, Porter’s refused to be denied this win in front of a raucous crowd of cheering parents. On the front line, Cassie Alwang ’20, Lucinda De Laney ’20, and Sasha Provost ’21 showed tremendous judgement and skill in their play. In the back, Angela Yuan ’21, Ava Forand ’21, Susan Zhang ’21, and Scout Davis ’21 played tenaciously. Maddie Guilmartin’ 21 distinguished herself on the court and through her serving, while Tyler Smith ’20 continued to display her talent no matter where she played. Captains Carolyn Nida ’19 and Alexia Cusano ’20 both played and led well, keeping the team focused and willing to keep believing Porter’s could win the match. This was a physically and emotionally draining game, and the team deserves recognition for their spirit.
