The JV Field Hockey squad was very well matched with Rumsey Hall this past Friday. The game was mostly played for possession between the 25-yard lines as each team's offense struggled to find shooting opportunities. Nia Carroll '22 had a few outstanding saves in the Porter's goal, but Rumsey Hall did get one by her midway through the second half. In the remaining minutes of the second half, the Porter's midfield significantly improved their movement with the ball, and a scrappy goal was tipped in by Sophie Schaeffer '21 right before the buzzer! Our young squad was shocked to learn that both teams' coaches appealed to the referee for at least a single period of sudden-victory overtime, which is not typically played out by JV teams in this league. That said, Porter's took the field with their "magnificent 7" for a grueling 7-a-side contest. In this scenario, fitness and speed were key. Congratulations to Rumsey Hall for a beautiful goal with 2 and a half minutes left on the clock for a sudden victory. Congratulations also to the Porter's athletes who gave it their all: Nia Carroll '22, Lily Jenden '22, Georgia Finley '22, Lydia Woodworth '21, Caroline Ma '19, Elisa Apfel '21, and Sophie Schaeffer '21.
