Porter's Varsity Soccer (15-1-1) made the long journey to current Class C New England Champions, MacDuffie (10-1) for the last away game of the regular season. It was always going to be a tight game; the atmosphere was enhanced as the home team was celebrating their 9 seniors.
MacDuffie started the game with purpose and stretched the midfield and defenders into 1 v 1 situations. #14 and #2 were involved in most of the attacks as their defenders wanted to get the ball into the final third as quickly as possible. Mid way through the first half MacDuffie drew in a foul and were awarded a PK which they scored to take the lead. The girls in green started to settle and found a lot of space out wide with Laura Gouvin '20 switching the point of attack. With 15 minutes remaining Carlyn Kosienski '19 won a corner and Gouvin '20 played an inviting ball in that Gabby Owens '19 headed in to the ground to make the score 1-1. Porter's Soccer started to take control as they searched for the next goal. With only a few minutes left of the first half Jenna Hall '20 collected a through ball and played it straight to Marjorie Plants '21, seven passes later Plants '21 received the ball on the edge of the box and found Gouvin '20 who took a touch and then finished well into the bottom left corner of the goal. The team defended very well in the second half and showed tremendous resilience in what was their 5th game in 9 days. Sam Halligan '21, Pia Davies '21 and Taylor Hall '22 made some impressive deep runs as the team looked to add another goal to the game.
The end result was celebrated as the team found out that another result went their way, which meant that they were Founders League Champions for the 2nd time in three years!
Next up Porter's soccer (16-1-1) host Green Farms Academy to celebrate the fantastic seniors and give them the send off that they deserve.
