Nice Comeback Falls Short

Porter's dropped their home opener to Choate 17-7 on Wednesday. Porter's racked up a 14-1 deficit in the first three innings, cut it to 14-7, but could never get any closer. With senior pitcher Jess Sardilli under the weather, junior Juliana Diamantis took the mound. She threw a lot of strikes, and escaped the first with a 3-0 deficit. However, some well hit balls and several errors behind her led to eight more Choate runs in the second. Sardilli took over and pitched well under the circumstances.

In the bottom of the first, Porter's scored their first run of the season when Tyler Smith ('20) drew her first of three walks on the day and scored on Sardilli's drive over the right fielder's head to the wall. In the third, Porter's put together their first big inning of the year with a five-run, two-out rally sparked by doubles by juniors Jenna Hall and Natalie Brennan. Hall continued to be a menace on the base paths in the 4th when she walked, stole second and third, and scored on an overthrow. However, three more Choate runs in the fifth kicked in the mercy rule.

Porter's is putting the puzzle pieces together game by game. Today, we swung the bats much better. Now, the challenge is to tighten up the defense as we travel to Deerfield this Saturday.
