After giving up three runs in the top of the first and going down 1-2-3 in the bottom, Porter's exploded for six runs in bottom of the second behind base hits from Maddie Guilmartin ('21), captain Juliana Diamantis ('20) and Natalie Brennan ('20). Taft added two in the third on some sloppy defending to make it 6-5 Porter's over the next three innings. Unfortunately, we only tacked on one run the rest of the way after a walk by Morgan Pickett ('21) in the sixth and singles by juniors Guilmartin, Lucinda DeLaney, and Tyler Smith. Tyler was on base four more times in the game. Her OBP (on-base percentage) now stands at a mind-boggling 83%.
Precocious freshman Nia Carroll again pitched well in relief, going four innings. She twirled a scoreless fourth and fifth. Each of the infielders--D'vine Straughter ('22), Guilmartin, Pickett, and DeLaney caught a pop fly as Carroll kept Taft off balance. To their credit, they timed her better in the last two innings, tacking on four in the sixth and three more in the seventh for the final margin of victory.
