Porter's Puts the Pieces Together in Win Over Loomis
Porter's jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings at home on Saturday. We let Loomis sneak back into the game at 6-3 by not scoring in the next four innings despite a plethora of baserunners and being shaky on defense in the top of the sixth. However, a five-run bottom of the sixth closed the door.
Juniors Jenna Hall (single, double) and Juliana Diamantis (two walks) scored runs in each of the first two innings in a game in which eight of our nine starters crossed the plate. When we needed to tack on runs late, the sixth started with a walk by Aimee Sardilli ('21), and singles by Natalie Brennan, Lucinda Delaney, Tyler Smith (all '20) and D'vine Straughter ('21). Tyler and D'vine were plated by a single by senior Jess Sardilli, her fifth time on base.
Jess was also the star on the mound, hurling strike after strike. She finished with eleven strikeouts and a single walk. With the exception of one inning, this was out most fundamentally sound game. The coaches took pride in the fact that the Loomis coach particularly complimented our base running, a skill we've spent hours drilling in practice.
