Everyone got into the act in a 17-2 win over Westover in our final game of the season. All nine places in the order scored at least one run. Freshman Nia Carroll stole several bases and scored three runs as a pinch runner for pitcher Jess Sardilli ('19). Fellow frosh Sam Manafort added an RBI single with the bases loaded in the 4th. Sardilli, Tyler Smith ('20), and D'Vine Straughter ('21) never recorded an out in a combined eleven at-bats.
Despite a lingering illness, Jess, our lone senior, took the mound and pitched with grit and guile. She was missing a couple of miles an hour on her fastball, but she made up for it by changing speeds and location, recording nine of the twelve Westover outs via strikeout. She was only touched up for two runs on a single and an inside-the-park home run in the 4th, which accounted for two of the three Westover hits.
Porter's finishes the season an up-and-down 5-6. We scored 90 runs and conceded 81. This writer will only add that on the rare occasion that we had all twelve players healthy, we played some beautiful softball. What might have been.
