Miss Porter's School Varsity Soccer made the long journey to play Class A opponents, Greenwich Academy. The hosts were unbeaten going into this contest.
The game started at an impressive pace as both teams looked to transition in numbers. Porter's found themselves in some very promising positions in the attacking third but failed to execute the right pass in those moments. Laura Gouvin '20, Molly Andrews '22 and Natalie Godoy '21 came closest to breaking the deadlock. With 8 minutes remaining in the half Gouvin '20 played a driven pass into the area for Sam Halligan '21 who was brought down. Godoy '21 stepped up and although her pk was saved she was on hand to follow up the rebound.
The second half was just as entertaining as challenges were flying in from both teams. Jenna Hall '20, Meghan Keating '20, Lauren Schramm 20 and Ana Bartkiewicz '20 were resilient off of the ball and composed on it, they barely made a mistake all game. Marjorie Plants '21 and Taylor Hall '22 worked tirelessly on both sides of the ball in very difficult conditions. Deep into the second half Bartkiewicz '20 won the ball off of the opponents forward and played a clever pass to Kyla Gallagher '20 who beat a defender before showing tremendous desire to win a 50/50 before exchanging pass with Halligan '21. Gallagher '20 then scored her 8th goal of the season to complete the scoring for the day. Gouvin '20 and Andrews '22 helped control the midfield and offered quality in and out of possession. Abby Ray '23 and Zoe 'ODea '23 played their part in maintaining the team's tempo and energy in the important stages of the game.
Porter's Soccer (4-0) now hosts the organized and talented Suffield Academy at Kiki field on Wednesday at 3pm.
