Miss Porter's Varsity Soccer traveled to last years Class A semi-finalists, Worcester Academy in what turned out to be an exciting and physical match up. Some early pressure in the opening stages saw the hosts test the girls in green with several corners. One of those corners fell to a Worcester player who volleyed it first time only for Anna Foster '20 (making only her second-ever varsity appearance) to show tremendous reflexes as she pushed the shot to the side. Within seconds of that impressive save, Lauren Schramm '20 spotted the run of Kyla Gallagher '20 who beat the offside trap to score her 11th goal of the season. The play went back and forth as Natalie Godoy '21 and Sam Halligan '21 started to find space in between the lines. The hosts capitalized on some confusion on the flank to tie the game at 1-1. Soon after Laura Gouvin '20 came close to adding the second, Worcester academy was awarded a PK, fortunately for Porter's Soccer, the chance to take a lead into half time was squandered.
The second half saw Gallagher '20 go close after the Worcester GK pulled off an outstanding save from a Halligan '21 effort that was destined for the top corner. The entire team worked tirelessly and showed a lot of desire to leave Massachusetts with an important result. A special shout out goes to Anna Foster '20 who has shown bravery, composure, skill, and selflessness since going the team.
Next up, Porter's Soccer (5-0-1) host Westminster on Wednesday a 2:30pm for a Class A and founders League battle.
