JV Volleyball lost last night to Kent, moving to a 3-4 record. Porter’s played well in many ways, with solid fundamentals in terms of setting and hitting, but minor errors proved too much to overcome. A misplaced pass here, an errant set there, failure to communicate at times, etc. Still, there were multiple bright spots. For example, Mariela Vazquez ‘21’s hitting and defensive play the best she has had all year, despite fighting an illness. Maddie Guilmartin ’21’s serving and movement were also very impressive. Sacha Licholai ’22 showed great “volleyball IQ” on the front line, anticipating in a way that reflected her growing experience. As always, setters Susie Sun ’20 and Hiyo Kobari ’22 were, generally speaking, dependable in both their setting and front line play. If Porter’s can improve their ball control and dependability of serving, this team could be poised for a brilliant remainder of the season.
