JV Volleyball lost a heartbreaker to Williston Northampton on Saturday, losing 2-3. Porter’s jumped ahead early, winning the first 2 sets. The remaining 3 sets were a hard-fought affair, with Porter’s losing the fourth 24-26. As a team and as individual players, this was Porter’s best game of the season. Scout Davis ’21 went on a 13 point run while serving, in addition to playing back line with a speed and skill of a veteran player. Additionally on the back line, Mara Farrell ’21 and Angela Yuan ’21 were steady, patient, and accurate in their plays. Maddie Guilmartin ’21 moved like lightening as our libero, passing, hitting, and serving well. On the front line, Porter’s hitters did exceptionally well. Ava Forand ’21 showed tremendous maturity and skill in her placement and hits, while Mariela Vazquez ’21, despite a splint on one hand, scored well from the left side. Sacha Licholai ’22 had her best game of the season, showing off not only markedly improved hitting but also a rapidly developing “volleyball IQ,” on more than one occasion faking out Williston’s defense with feints. Captain Darian Gordon ’20 also played a great game, even having energy to lead to urge players on from the sidelines. Linda Cai ’20 played like a seasoned veteran on both the front and back lines, contributing in every way possible, including serving. Hiyo Kobari ’22 set and served admirably, as always. This is a much-improved team over what it was in September. Coach Gene and Coach Alyssa are very proud of how our players developed and want to thank the team for the privilege of helping in that development.
