SUMMARY:Talking AI with Students
DESCRIPTION:Join the Parent Leadership Committee (PLC) and Chief Academic Officer Tim Quinn for a virtual conversation with Eric Hudson\, expert on AI in Education.  \nThe rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced a powerful new tool in education and beyond. What do our students need to know and be able to do in an AI world? What does it mean to be a responsible\, ethical user of AI? How do we help our students make good decisions about AI in and out of school? This session will review the current state of generative AI\, what early research is telling us about student and educator use of AI\, and the potential and pitfalls of the technology. We’ll discuss how we should talk to students about AI in the context of both learning and wellness. \nZoom link to be provided after registration.

SUMMARY:The Well-Balanced Porter’s Student
DESCRIPTION:Last year\, students at Miss Porter’s School participated in the Challenge Success–Stanford Survey of School Experiences\, which offered a window into their experience of school. In this virtual session\, we’ll review the key findings from the survey and consider the implications for our community. \nWe’ll also explore the impact of broader trends in education on our students’ lives – from pressures around homework to grades and college admissions – and consider the deliberate steps Porter’s is taking to ensure that our students are not only prepared but healthy and equipped to navigate the challenges facing adolescents today. \nYou’ll leave with practical\, research-based tips for how you can support balance at home and partner with the school in creating a healthy\, meaningful educational journey for your child.
