Athletics at Porter's

Athletics are a fundamental part of the overall educational experience at Miss Porter's School.  The athletic program strives to teach students physical and mental skills, self-discipline, and sportsmanship while motivating athletes to strive for excellence. We believe the value of participation is lifelong and that the team experience builds foundational skills of leadership, teamwork, competition, commitment, integrity, and achievement.

Athletics at Porter's are competitive and require a level of commitment above and beyond other after school activities. At the varsity level in particular, the most capable and committed athletes constitute teams. In doing so, these teams aim to refine athletic skills to compete at an advance level and excel in competitions.  All athletes are expected to promote and demonstrate respect, resilience, courage, patience, and commitment to their teammates and with adults.

Porter's competes in the Founders League with Choate Rosemary Hall, Ethel Walker, Hotchkiss, Kent, Kingswood-Oxford, Loomis Chaffee, Taft and Westminster schools. At the end of each season, Porter's competes against the area's most competitive teams in the New England Championships.

  • Athlete of the Week Lila Conners '20

This player has progressed in production in the three games played this year. She was asked to produce more for her teammates by looking to be aggressive on offense. She has always been reliable in getting rebounds and playing solid defense. This year her teammates need her on the offensive end as well. She was hesitant at first but overcame doubt.  Against Kent, Lila Conners “20 was 5 of 8 from 2fg and had 12 points 16 rebounds. First Double Double of this season! Congrats to Lila Conners on receiving the athlete of the week award.

  • Athlete of the Week: Ana Bartkiewcz & Maddie BeVeir

This Student Athlete has demonstrated an embodiment of a complete player. She’s a scorer, rebounder, assist passer and she runs down passes for steals. She also leads the team  and encourages her teammates with a positive voice. She has been consistent in her efforts and is a huge reason the varsity basketball team is 8-0. She is averaging 10 pts, 7.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.1 steals and has an effective field goal percentage of 42.4%. She is a player that can play the 1-5. Congrats to Ana Barkewicz.

Thirds basketball had their first game against Deerfield on Saturday. They lead through all four quarters and kept their composure as Deerfield mounted a late game challenge.

This athlete of the week hustled at every moment - both on offense and defense. She was a positive force on this team of players who are sure to have a strong season!

Congratulations to athlete of the week Maddie BeVeir.

  • Athlete of the Week- Skyler Wahlberg

Skyler Wahlberg earned 1st place in both her jumping and her flat class. She continues to be a solid rider, being smart about her decisions showing, and keeping a calm head when she has a tough horse draw. I look forward to see her continue to be a great asset on the team as we head into regionals.

  • Athlete of the Week: Sacha Licholai

This athlete had her best game of the season on Saturday against Williston Northampton. Her play on the front line was outstanding, with her adjusting like a seasoned veteran. When compared to that in September or October, her hitting on Saturday was light years improved. Besides very capable attacks, She displayed a tremendous “volleyball IQ,” faking out the defense with feints (drawing back her arm to hit, then tipping lightly over the net) on multiple occasions. Additionally, this athlete moved around the court with tremendous confidence, which is also a testament to her improvement this year. Assuming she does not end up on Varsity next year, Coach Alyssa and I look forward to seeing her development continue next season. Excelsior, Congratulations to athlete of the week, Sacha Licholai!!

  • Anna Foster '20 JV Soccer

Athlete of the Week: Anna Foster

    Anna Foster:

This athlete has proved she is a force to be reckoned with this season. From a game-winning goal in our closing minutes at NMH, to another clutch finish in our 1-0 win at KO.  This JV soccer player not only dazzles her competitors in the offensive third, but she was also able to step up big for us in goal making some key saves against Greenwich Academy. This athlete has provided a great boost to our results and game play this season. When push came to shove and the Varsity team needed a goalie to step up it was this athlete that took on the role minutes prior to kick off. She is a fantastic asset to the soccer program here and I look forward to seeing what else Anna has up her sleeves for us.
