One hundred girls from around the world, ages 14-18, will have the amazing opportunity to attend the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy and Miss Porter’s School (MPS) Global Summit in South Africa from July 3 to 19, 2023.
Located in Henley on Klip, South Africa, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG) is a secure, state-of-the-art campus nestled in a suburban neighborhood 45 minutes outside of Johannesburg on the Klip River. Students from around the world will enjoy a three-week international, experiential, cultural, and academic global summit where they will learn leadership skills and be empowered to become leaders and changemakers in their local communities.
Ms. Gugu Ndebele, head of school at OWLAG, announced the collaboration in October while visiting the Porter’s community and campus. Along with Dr. Katherine G. Windsor, head of school at MPS, Gugu shared that the partnership between these two bastions of girls’ education provides a unique opportunity for girls from around the world to live together, meet with community leaders, and learn how to network and collaborate to address the global issues of the day that affect their local communities.
The three weeks are divided into phases centered on:
- Identity and ethics
- Design thinking and social entrepreneurship
- Activism and leadership.
Participating students will learn about the world around them, participate in workshops, including one with Ms. Oprah Winfrey, and travel in and around South Africa as they engage with members of the local community.
Participation is by application only! Click here to receive more information about the Global Summit.
