Global Studies Certificate

The Global Studies Certificate is a path through which students develop cross-cultural knowledge and communication skills, as well as the ability to think critically about global change with a deeper understanding of the interconnected and interdependent nature of our world. They focus on and address real world issues that are relevant to them, culminating in a 12th grade capstone project.
Course Requirements:

Study of a language each year. 

10th Grade 
  • Two semester-long Area Studies courses in the History Department. 
11th Grade
  • Advanced Interdisciplinary Seminar in Global Studies: Beliefs, Behaviors and Cross-Cultural Narratives. 
  • International, school-based immersion during InterMission, culminating in a symposium project. 
  • At least one year-long or two semester-long courses with a global focus. 
12th Grade 
  • At least one year-long or two semester-long courses with a global focus.
  • Globally-focused InterMission internship. 
  • Global Studies capstone project and digital portfolio.

Co-Curricular Requirements:

Two or more of the following during grades 10-12: 
  • Host a student from one of our international partner schools. 
  • Work collaboratively on a project with student(s) from an international partner school. 
  • Propose and engage in a collaborative project working with a local organization or community in the greater Hartford region. 
  • Participate actively in any of these student organizations: News-Decoder, Earth Club, Model UN or Concordia (community service).
