Statement of Purpose

The Institute for Global Education

Are you curious about the world? Do you want to grow as a global citizen?

Miss Porter’s School is a global community with our students, faculty, and staff representing more than 30 countries which creates our unique and diverse environment. Becoming a global citizen begins with you. We all share in the responsibility to develop a deep awareness of our role within a broader global context while acknowledging the interconnectedness of our world. Porter’s students are taught to challenge their assumptions, cultivate an empathetic imagination, and recognize others’ perspectives as compassionate citizens of the world.

Examining one’s identity and its influence on personal viewpoints is a pivotal element of the Porter’s journey! We engage deeply in the history, cultural traditions and current events as a worldwide community. This allows us all to gain a profound understanding of what it means to be an ethical global citizen. . .

one who shapes a changing world.

Addressing pressing problems in the world

Grade 11 Global Experience

Grade 11 students engage in a full trimester course of global inquiry with an international travel experience. Students participate in one of three experiences abroad, each with a focus on a regionally relevant pressing problem.

Students witness firsthand the implications of these issues and how theoretical in-class concepts translate into practical real-world experiences.

Students are exposed to different global challenges, cultural contexts, and effective solutions.

Certificate in Global Studies

Porter’s signature Certificate in Global Studies is a unique path through which students develop cross-cultural knowledge and communication skills to think critically about global change.

With a focus on the intersections of these global dynamics — interdependence and interconnection — students explore various aspects of global affairs. They engage with relevant and real-world issues like cultural diversity, economic interdependence, geopolitical trends, and international social trends.
