Students study a wide range of global Art History in the Advanced Placement Art History class often having first studied nineteenth and/or twentieth century art. Art History is a lecture and discussion based program offered in the Olin Arts and Science Building in physical and ideational proximity to the Studio Art and Photography programs. Two major field trips each year (usually one to New York and one to Boston) are enhanced by smaller trips to local museums as the emphasis in the Art History classes is on studying actual works of art. Several Art History students serve as interns at the Hill-Stead Museum up the hill from Miss Porter’s School. An active network of curating Alumnae offers current and real art world perspectives on art today.
