Last years New England finalists, Pomfret, were the opponents on Saturday afternoon in another close encounter between the two teams. Pomfret are always very well organized and never offer a lot of space in front of or behind their back four. Porter's Varsity Soccer knew that if they were going to get anything from this game they would need to work hard and concentrate tactically throughout.
With only a few minutes on the clock Pomfret went close with a corner but were unable to test Jenna Hall '20. Much of the first half was back and forth and although Pomfret created a very good chance it was Carlyn Kosienski '19 who tested the opponents keeper on two occasions. Half time came too soon for the girls in green who were determined to find the back of the net first. 18 minutes into the second half Porter's executed a corner as Laura Gouvin '20 swung in an inch perfect cross that allowed Gabby Owens '19 to score her first goal of the season. Pomfret pushed numbers forward for the last 6 minutes but Porter's stood firm and defended with composure and resilience. Ana Bartkiewiecz ’20 and Molly Andrews ’22 put in a great deal of work for 80 minutes and Katie Konin ’19, Owens ’19 and Meghan Keating ’20 once again gave very little space away in the defensive third.
Porter’s Soccer (8-0) now turn their attention to Class A and founders league opponents Taft away on Wednesday afternoon.
