In summer-like conditions yesterday, JV Filed Hockey kept the win on Oaklea Field against a young but fiercely determined team from Hamden Hall. The first-half seemed like an easily controllable game, but Porter's found itself faltering and having to recapture possession and stay over the 50. After a time-out to re-set play, we returned to the field with abundant opportunities to score. Some messy field work prevented that from happening until the second half, when nearly all play occurred above in the Hamden Hall 50, and much of it in the 25. In an exciting game of sweep and clear, the dynamic duo of Sam Manfort '22 and Lily Jenden '22 played with intensity and strategic skill. Behind them goalkeeper Nia Carroll '22 demonstrated cat-like reflexes as she dodged and darted to cover the cage and protect her space. Similarly, Reina Salama '22 playing both D and O and Sophie Schaeffer '21 maintained a pace that outran the opposition for 50 minutes. As ever, Captains Caroline Ma '19, a linchpin at mid-field, and Priyanka Tomar '19, formidable, relaible wing, relied on speed and expertise to deflect Hamden Hall's scrappy offense.

As ever, Lydia Woodworth '21 played with every inch of muscle and ounce of might, Georgia Finley '22 orchestrated a beautiful lift to pass above the 50, and Jessica Hua '22 moved from defense to offense with seamless effort. Charis Ng '20 drew fast at mid-field, with Bunny Rutledge '20 stepping into her first competition off of the DL. Shout-outs to Annabel Adeyeri '22 who marked throughout her excellent field time, and Emi Alazraki-Reynes '21 in offense spun the ball to block and tackle. Kudos to Elisa Apfel '21 who tipped-in our one lonely goal, but one is all we needed to keep the win at Oaklea Field!
