Monday, November 5 Varsity Field Hockey vs. Ethel Walker: L 0-2 Recap: The Porter's field hockey team showed up ready to play on a rainy, cold Monday afternoon at Ethel Walkers. Both goals from the Walkers' team were scored off of solid penalty corner plays, and the Porter's defense did a solid job holding off all other opportunities to get the ball in the net. Defender McKenna Cutler '19 did a phenomenal job at center back, with consistent clears and hard drives down the field to the forward line. Forwards Morgan Mastrangelo '19, Gabe Brewer '19, and Mel Belenardo '20 worked hard to get shots on goal and Porter's came very close to scoring in the final minutes after a few penalty corner opportunities. Midfielders Grace Bergin '19, Rachel Hart '20, Cricket Barnes '19, and Audrey McMillan '20 played well together and helped to break up the passing game of Walkers. Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Muller also had many great saves within the game, tallying 15 total.
Varsity Soccer vs. Ethel Walker: W 1-0 Recap:Porter's Varsity Soccer made the short journey to Simsbury to take on Founders League opponents Ethel Walker on a wet and cold evening. Playing their 4th game in 7 days the girls in green knew they had to stay focused and patient throughout. Ethel Walker is always well organized and leaves everything on the field, and this contest was another example of that. Only six minutes in Laura Gouvin '20 scored from a 20-yard free kick to settle the away team. Walkers had a few shots from distance but Jenna Hall '20 dealt with them all quite comfortably. Kyla Gallagher '20 had two well-worked attempts saved very well by the opponent’s keeper and Carlyn Kosienski '19 had two opportunities within 8 yards of the goal. Porter's did a nice job of combining and attacking in numbers and even with 24 shots (16 on target), they could only find the single goal.
Wednesday, November 7 Varsity Field Hockey vs. Berkshire: L 0-5 Recap: The Berkshire Bears dominated the field in the first half of Wednesday's game, and Porter's, unfortunately, struggled to get their game together. After going down 5-0 by the end of the first half, Porter's recharged and held off the Berkshire attacks in the second half. Although Porter's was unable to get a goal of their own within the game, the second half was much stronger, with Porter's securing 4 penalty corners and 3 shots on goal. In that second half, junior Jackie Witt made strong contributions defensively, and senior Grace Bergin and junior Rachel Hart worked effectively in the midfield, each getting the ball into the circle and generating some scoring opportunities. Gabe Brewer '19 and Ruby Eisler '21 showed good effort on the forward line as well.
Varsity Soccer vs. MacDuffie: W 2-1 Recap:Porter's Varsity Soccer (15-1-1) made the long journey to current Class C New England Champions, MacDuffie (10-1) for the last away game of the regular season. It was always going to be a tight game; the atmosphere was enhanced as the home team was celebrating their 9 seniors. MacDuffie started the game with purpose and stretched the midfield and defenders into 1 v 1 situations. #14 and #2 were involved in most of the attacks as their defenders wanted to get the ball into the final third as quickly as possible. Midway through the first half MacDuffie drew in a foul and were awarded a PK which they scored to take the lead. The girls in green started to settle and found a lot of space out wide with Laura Gouvin '20 switching the point of attack. With 15 minutes remaining Carlyn Kosienski '19 won a corner and Gouvin '20 played an inviting ball in that Gabby Owens '19 headed into the ground to make the score 1-1. Porter's Soccer started to take control as they searched for the next goal. With only a few minutes left of the first half Jenna Hall '20 collected a through ball and played it straight to Marjorie Plants '21, seven passes later Plants '21 received the ball on the edge of the box and found Gouvin '20 who took a touch and then finished well into the bottom left corner of the goal. The team defended very well in the second half and showed tremendous resilience in what was their 5th game in 9 days. Sam Halligan '21, Pia Davies '21 and Taylor Hall '22 made some impressive deep runs as the team looked to add another goal to the game. The end result was celebrated as the team found out that another result went their way, which meant that they were Founders League Champions for the 2nd time in three years!

Saturday, November 10 Varsity Cross Country @ NEPSTA Division I Championships: 10th Place Recap: On Saturday the Porter's Cross Country went to Avon to compete in the New England Division 1 Championship race for our final race. It was a chilly day and the varsity runners even had about ten minutes of snow at the beginning of their race! It being our "home" course, and the last race of a fulfilling and gratifying season, the team was undeterred by the weather. Varsity ran their best race today with every single runner achieving a PR. The Porter's varsity team placed 10th out of 14 teams, beating both Hotchkiss and Taft-- two teams we lost to last week at Founder's. Congratulations to Alexandra Poole '20. She finished 7th overall with a time of 19:44, and will be running in her second All-Star race next weekend at St. Mark's. It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to work with every single person on this team, and I could not be more proud of everyone's hard work and dedication throughout the season.
