Students are advised to take a rigorous schedule including courses in every discipline; the vast majority of Porter's students exceed the minimum graduation requirements in all or most departments. With the help and approval of her advisor, each student is expected to prepare a full, balanced schedule each year and to plan a course of study for all of her remaining years at school. Appropriate programs reflect the student’s needs and interests, positively represent her efforts and achievement in the college admissions process and meet the School’s graduation requirements. Extracurricular activities are included in the student’s overall plan, and consideration is given to the importance they play in forming a well-balanced program. Every schedule is subject to final approval by the Academic Office.
Each student submits course choices in the spring, according to announced procedures, with the understanding that some programs will be adjusted because of inappropriate load, course cancellations due to under-enrollment, course over-enrollment and scheduling conflicts. Final approval of each student’s schedule occurs over the summer.
