Today's racing provided spectators at the course a lot of entertainment. From the 40 mph gusts that blew hats off of racers and blades clashing against bridges, to the high speed racing of 'the great 8+', a boat filled with Olympic scullers from across the globe. Our first boat competed in the Women's Youth 4+ event filled with 85 competitors.
They crossed the line with a time of 22:52.45 placing them in 66th place. The boat had a strong first and last mile but the middle of the race proved to be a difficult moment as they faced some of the strongest headwinds on the course. While this may have culminated our racing this season we are looking forward to continuing to make some great physical and technical gains through the remainder of our fall season.
Porter's raced three boats this weekend with some amazing conditions out on the course. Hartford hosted competitors form many high schools, colleges, and high level club programs across New England. As our teams first taste at racing this season they managed a very solid start. Our first boat placed 18th in their race, second boat in 15th, and our sculling entry, a double, placed 13th. We have been making some great strides over this first month of training. As a squad we are now looking to build upon our baseline fitness levels to help improve boat speed through the second half of the course. A huge shout out to Olivia Gorman who has yet again competed in this regatta in two separate events, no easy task.
Porter's swim and dive team earned third place in the Founders League Championships, held Wednesday, February 22 (diving) at Westminster School and Saturday, February 25 (swimming) at Miss Porter's School.
