Undefeated this season, Porter's badminton won a convincing final match victory over Emma Willard to post a final record of 12-0.
From one end of the ladder to the other, the caliber of play has been really impressive, with vast personal improvement across the board. A wonderful group of individuals, it has been a great pleasure to coach this team. I appreciate the combination of respect, determination, and sense of humor that they have brought to each and every practice/match.
The Porter's Varsity Badminton Team remains undefeated after a complete shutout against a mixed gender (but mostly male) Glastonbury High School team.
Standout performances were in doubles teams Simrat Khalsa '19/Annika Philomin '20 (1st Doubles) and Shushu Fang '18/Jolie Nguyen '21 (2nd Doubles) both of whom split sets only to win the third, and decisive, set and match.
First and second singles players, Roanna Zou '19 and Nitya Shah '20, won their matches rather handily. In order to allow playing time for everyone on the team and make for a more competitive match, Roanna and Nitya sat out the doubles competition and instead helped coach the team to victory.
Playing a mixed gender Hamden squad, Porters swept all matches.
Outstanding player of the day was Nitya Shah '20 who, in a rematch with Hamden's top male player, avenged her defeat a few weeks ago to the same individual, a tall and athletic individual who packed a formidable smash. This time, however, Shah '20 ran him all over the court, keeping him off balance and preventing him from finding his rhythm. Later Shah '20 teamed up with Roanna Zou '19 to claim an easy win in the doubles.
On Wednesday, November 15, Porter's varsity soccer hosted last year's New England Class B Champions Pingree School in the NEPSAC Quarterfinals. This marked the second year in a row Porter's made the postseason tournament.
