Porter's traveled to Wallingford to play against Choate Rosemary Hall for their last away game of the season. Cold and rainy, Porter's met Choate with aggression and competition, scoring two goals within the first ten minutes of the game. Practicing using the corners of the field, Lilly Aferzon '19 crossed the ball to Anya Lord '19 who scored in the first minute of the game. Though Choate put up a fight with some speedy breakaways, Annie-Kate Schubert '21 held together Porter's strong defensive line, not letting Choate's offensive break through. Congrats to captain Jenn Hehn '18 for her goal in the second half of the game that solidified a win for the team. Our last game will be Wednesday November 8th at 3pm home.
Porter's thirds team traveled to Simsbury for a nail-biter game against Westminster's thirds team. Accustomed to the turf field at home, Porter's struggled to control the game, resulting in several breakaway goals from Westminster's offensive line. Fired up from each Westminster victory, captain Anya Lord '19 fought back with speed and precision. Inspiring the team to play an aggressive and competitive game, Anya scored all five goals with notable assists from Sabrina Liu '21 and Lilli Aferzon '19. Thanks to Annie-Kate Schuber '21 Porter's kept a strong defensive line and together brought home a victory. Next Porter's will travel to Choate Rosemary Hall for a 3pm game.
Our Thirds team wasn't able to repeat the win of last week against Rumsey Hall in our second encounter. The game started with two early goals from the Rumsey squad in spite of a great performance by first period goalie Annie-Kate Schubert. Our team quickly established dominance on the field for the rest of the game, but was not able to find the back of the net in spite of multiple shots and solid playing. The second half brought again field dominance by Porter's for the most part, but it was Rumsey again who would be able to score first. Porter's responded with a goal by Ditta Chandra with 10 minutes left on the game. Our team is now ready for our next game on Wednesday against Loomis.
On Wednesday, November 15, Porter's varsity soccer hosted last year's New England Class B Champions Pingree School in the NEPSAC Quarterfinals. This marked the second year in a row Porter's made the postseason tournament.
This week's athlete of the week is Adi Jalinskas '18 from varsity field hockey.
Jalinskas '18 has been a model captain and teammate this season. She persists in the face of adversity, loves to train hard, and her favorite days are the ones where she is pushed to work the hardest. She rallies her teammates with her positivity and her competitive drive. We love to witness her sprint ahead to keep a ball in bounds or her quick hand-eye coordination whenever there is an opportunity to tip it in.
Jalinskas '18 was chosen to play in the Western New England Prep School All-Star game, and she led her team to a 4-0 victory, posting 2 of the goals! Arguably, this made her the game's most valuable player. In the face of such amazing competition, it was fantastic to see her create and capitalize on the opportunities to score. Congratulations to the Athlete of the Week, Adi Jalinskas '18.
