Miss Porter's Varsity had their last away game of the season v Westover on Wednesday afternoon. On a small and uneven field Westover had some success playing direct and into the channels, on a few occasions the home team were unlucky not to score. Katie Konin opened the scoring after Emily Wogelius corner fell in the box and Katie was the first player to react to place the ball into the bottom corner. 10 minutes after the first goal Laura Gouvin struck a free ick from 20 yards into the bottom corner putting the girls in green 2-0 up. Co-Captain Emily Wogelius made it 3-0 with a fine strike from 22 yards and then it was the Emma Updegrave show as she finished 3 goals very well giving her a first career Hat trick! Kyla Gallagher finished the scoring late in the second half with an individual effort and confirming the teams 17th win and 17th shut out of the season.
Up next is a home game v play off bound Green Farms Academy as we look forward to celebrating our seniors!
Sam Houle, Emily Wogelius, Emma Updegrave, Cami Beath and Claire Beath were celebrated today as seniors that have given so much to the program the past 4 years. In the last regular season game the team wanted to stay unbeaten and give a performance that the seniors would remember and enjoy being a part of.
Miss Porter's Varsity controlled the game and moved the ball around with composure, the captains lead the team as they always do. Carlyn Kosienski cut inside and opened the scoring from 20 yards, a shot that made its way over the keeper and into the net.
Early in the second half Kyla Gallagher drove into the area and finished well into the bottom corner as the opposing keeper could only watch it hit the goal. Green Farms scored a nice free kick to make the score 2-1 but a corner fell to Laura Gouvin's feet and on her second attempt she was able to volley the ball into the roof of the net completing the scoring for the day.
Each senior has had a huge impact on the program, they have seen it grow and have grown with it. It is a fantastic achievement to go through the regular season unbeaten, win the founder’s league and regular season B division and now enter the New England Play offs for only the second time in the programs history!
Sam, Emily, Emma, Cami and Claire...'Thank you' for everything!
Next up Miss Porter's (18-0-2) host Governors Academy in the quarter finals of New England’s at home this Wednesday at 2pm.
Choate, No.1 in WWNEPSSA were the visitors to No.2 in WWNEPPSA Porter's on Saturday afternoon. With a very large crowd (creating a fantastic atmosphere) the game did not disappoint.
Both teams showed a committed display and rarely gave anyone time on the ball or space to think, the tempo of the game was at a very high level. In what was an even first half it was a Naya Lipkens tremendous fingertip save that preserved the 0-0 with 50 seconds left in the first half.
The second half showed why both teams rarely conceded a goal and as the clock started to wind down it was obvious that the home team would be applauded for their desire and pride for their jersey and that the game would end as a tie........but the script had already been written. With a minute remaining Co-Captain Sam Houle put in a slide challenge that will stay in the memory of many, and with the ball falling to a girl in green the tired Choate midfielder gave a free kick away. With 40 seconds left on the clock Carlyn Kosienski delivered a beautiful free kick that Sydni Scott headed into the roof of the net beating her man marker. That goal meant that Miss Porter's Varsity Soccer won the founders league for the first time in the schools history and putting Miss Porter's Soccer on 16-0-2 record for the season.
Each squad member impacted the reason why this was such a big game, it was a great reward for a lot of hard work by this current squad.
Next up Westover away on Wednesday as the team looks to stay unbeaten and prepare for the Class B playoffs.
Thank you to everyone that came to the game and created an atmosphere that the girls will never forget.
