In a close game, Porter's fell 2-0 to Taft. Due to a late start to the game, Porter's and Taft played two out of three, thus narrowing our chances in what was truly an evenly matched game (first game score: 18-25; second game score: 23-25). Straughter '21 had her best game of the season with multiple digs, kills, and several serves. Dowd '20 also played like a champion with a streak of four serves in the first game and a streak of 5 in the second. Nida '19 also had a great game on defense, with multiple valiant saves in the back row and several serve-receives. Thompson '81 made several smart plays at the net, along with a four-serve run. We play Hopkins at the Crisp Gym on Saturday at 2:30. Come show your support!
The Porter's JV squad lost a very close game to Greenwich Academy, going to five sets. It took a bit for us to get our feet under us after the 90 minute ride, so the first two went to GA. That said, in each of those sets we nearly came back from GA's gaping lead. The third and fourth sets were ours, though, and we played scrappy, aggressive volleyball. Unfortunately, we lost 13-15, demonstrating that it was truly anyone's game today.
Most notably, Catherine Thompson '18 was right there when we needed her with multiple saves, sets, and passes; Julia Dowd '20 had several kills, aces, and digs; Tyler Smith '20 was strong on defense with serve-receives and digs, as was Charlotte Whalen '20, Maddie Penalver '21, and Carolyn Nida '19; and D'Vine Straughter's '21 heroic kills and serves. Haley Baum '20 and Sewon Lim '18 played some scrappy volleyball today. Susie Sun '20 played in the back row today and had several successful digs and a few points earned on her serves. Next Wednesday we play Taft at the Crisp gym. Come show support!
Porter's JV Volleyball had a strong game to bounce back with a 3-0 win against Wilbraham and Monson. Leading the offensive charge was Catherine Thompson '18 with nineteen aces. Charlotte Whalen '20 and Maddy Penalver '21 had five and four respectively. Also contributing to the offense were D'vine Straughter '21 with three kills and Julia Dowd '21 with two. Defensively, Charlotte Whalen '20 had a strong game as libero, making a few tricky digs. Carolyn Nida '19 and Tyler Smith '20 also helped in the back row. We hope to keep the momentum going as we travel to Greenwich Academy on the 14th!
Alex Poole's '20 athletic drive is one to be admired by all. Despite her commitment to an outside sport, she remains deeply devoted to the Porter's cross country team. She gives every practice her all and during races she leaves nothing on the course. At Williston Northampton on Saturday, October 14, she placed first overall, beating the second place runner by almost half a minute. She also was just 8 seconds away from setting a course record. If she had a little more competition, she almost certainly would have done so. Congratulations, Alex.
