Porter's defeated Williston-Northampton 3-0 on Saturday, closing out the season with a winning 8-5 record. We started the first set quite clumsily, and at 8-10, Coach Rigoulot called a timeout. We told them that this is their last game and they should play like it will be the best game ever; boy did they do so! Some phenomenal serving occurred, as Catherine Thompson '18 had 16 aces across the three sets, Julia Dowd '20 had 5 aces in the first set, and D'Vine Straughter had a long run of 8 serves in a row in the third set, as did Maddie Penalver '21. Carolyn Nida '19, Tyler Smith '20, and Susie Sun '20 also had great games in the back row, with several heroic digs and difficult serve-receives. Julia Dowd '20 and Haley Baum '20 each had a few remarkable kills across the three sets, as did D'Vine Straughter '21 and Alexia Cusano '20. Sewon Lim '18 closed out her volleyball career with two aces and digs. It really was a great day for all who played, and Charlotte Whalen '20 ran the scoreboard due to an injury. Great work, girls and GO PORTER'S!!!
On Wednesday, November 15, Porter's varsity soccer hosted last year's New England Class B Champions Pingree School in the NEPSAC Quarterfinals. This marked the second year in a row Porter's made the postseason tournament.
This week's athlete of the week is Adi Jalinskas '18 from varsity field hockey.
Jalinskas '18 has been a model captain and teammate this season. She persists in the face of adversity, loves to train hard, and her favorite days are the ones where she is pushed to work the hardest. She rallies her teammates with her positivity and her competitive drive. We love to witness her sprint ahead to keep a ball in bounds or her quick hand-eye coordination whenever there is an opportunity to tip it in.
Jalinskas '18 was chosen to play in the Western New England Prep School All-Star game, and she led her team to a 4-0 victory, posting 2 of the goals! Arguably, this made her the game's most valuable player. In the face of such amazing competition, it was fantastic to see her create and capitalize on the opportunities to score. Congratulations to the Athlete of the Week, Adi Jalinskas '18.
