Skyler Wahlberg earned 1st place in both her jumping and her flat class. She continues to be a solid rider, being smart about her decisions showing, and keeping a calm head when she has a tough horse draw. I look forward to see her continue to be a great asset on the team as we head into regionals.
This athlete had her best game of the season on Saturday against Williston Northampton. Her play on the front line was outstanding, with her adjusting like a seasoned veteran. When compared to that in September or October, her hitting on Saturday was light years improved. Besides very capable attacks, She displayed a tremendous “volleyball IQ,” faking out the defense with feints (drawing back her arm to hit, then tipping lightly over the net) on multiple occasions. Additionally, this athlete moved around the court with tremendous confidence, which is also a testament to her improvement this year. Assuming she does not end up on Varsity next year, Coach Alyssa and I look forward to seeing her development continue next season. Excelsior, Congratulations to athlete of the week, Sacha Licholai!!
This athlete has proved she is a force to be reckoned with this season. From a game-winning goal in our closing minutes at NMH, to another clutch finish in our 1-0 win at KO. This JV soccer player not only dazzles her competitors in the offensive third, but she was also able to step up big for us in goal making some key saves against Greenwich Academy. This athlete has provided a great boost to our results and game play this season. When push came to shove and the Varsity team needed a goalie to step up it was this athlete that took on the role minutes prior to kick off. She is a fantastic asset to the soccer program here and I look forward to seeing what else Anna has up her sleeves for us.
Brand new to the sport, it is amazing how quickly this new athlete has picked up the technical skills she needs to be successful. Tenacious with clean defensive play and always goal-hungry in the opponents circle, she is an emerging field hockey star. She has the fitness it takes to play the field for the full, regulation time and the kind of coach-ability that makes her a leader on the bench, too. Her anticipation of passes and her ability to maximize her position on the field are truly outstanding. This is a skill which we are certain she has transferred to our sport from her expertise in Ultimate Frisbee. To her often asking, "Is there anything I can do to improve, coach?" we often find ourselves answering, "Just keep up the good work!"
