Equestrian
This past week, this athlete has shown off her stamina in Equestrian: even after shows that run late, she has stayed at the barn to ride. She has asked her coaches for extra practice time, even on days when we thought they’d need a break. Athlete of the Week is Tessa Hughson!
Volleyball
This athlete of the week has been the rock for JV Volleyball all season long. She consistently showed up every day with the best attitude and a work ethic that held the standard for our program. This athlete not only has insanely hard hits but is also one of the best passers on the team which led her to play all the way around the court almost all season. She was consistently nominated as game MVP by her teammates all season, but still has no idea how good she is. At our last game, she served over 12 aces (4 turkeys!) to help us come back from a deficit and win 3-1 against Williston Northampton (Woooo!)! This week’s athlete of the week is Qingqing Jing!

Field Hockey
This player has been sidelined by nagging injuries since the spring and she just recently was able to return to the field hockey field for competition. In her senior day game vs. Pomfret this past Saturday, this player showed up determined and eager to score. She assisted on the team’s one goal in regulation and then in the first 2 minutes of overtime, she raced down the field to get into scoring position and tipped the ball into the goal off a pass from her teammate. Although this win was a true team effort, this player’s focus and intensity throughout the game helped to inspire her teammates to play harder and her presence on the field made a big difference in the pace of the game. Congratulations to Lauren Hannigan!
Cross Country
On Saturday the Porter’s cross country team competed at the Founders League Championship race held at Taft this year. The varsity team finished third overall which is the highest Porter’s has placed in at least a decade. This runner started the season having very little experience with running. Over the course of the season, however, this runner has gotten progressively stronger and more confident in her running. This week she came back to Taft to a longer and more challenging course, and ran a PR of 29:24, over five minutes better than her first race at Taft! We can’t wait to see the progress she continues to make! Our nomination this week goes to Jodie Hao!
Soccer
This athlete of the week is new to our community this year. An absolute rock at the back, she has anchored the best defense in WWNEPSSA (out of 42 teams) and has been a key part to the team only conceding 9 goals all season. This past week she helped the team to two huge Founders League wins, restricting the DI forwards to half chances and then popped up with the game winning goal on Saturday against Choate. More than her soccer attributes, she is a positive individual who always uplifts her peers. This final athlete of the week achievement goes to Bella Salina!

Soccer
This athlete of the week has made some remarkable saves to keep the Porter’s Varsity Soccer team in a contest. She is brave and as tough as they come. There is nothing more intimidating than an opponents forward bearing down on goal to see this Goalkeeper running towards you and winning the ball time and time again. This season she has 7 shut outs in 12 contests and has conceded 8 goals all season long. This athlete of the week is turning into one of the best in her position in New England. Give it up for Ellie Westcott!
Soccer
This next AOTW has shown remarkable improvements since her freshman year, Now a Junior I can’t think of a soccer player that has developed her technical, tactical and physical attributes as much as this student in such a short space of time. This season she has been one of the top performers in a wing back position. She meeps down the wing with so much energy, and has the composure to play simply or drive a long pass to switch the point of attack. This student has 5 goals and 9 assists this season and most recently scored from 30 yards to start a remarkable comeback for Porters vs. Loomis. This week’s athlete of the week is Lauren Ricapito!

This week’s Athlete of the Week has shown remarkable endurance and tenacity. She competed at the Gordy Glover Invitational at Suffield Academy, where she was one of our top five runners and finished in the top 20 overall, helping secure a win for Miss Porter’s. Just 17 hours later, she ran in the Apple Harvest 5K as part of the Porter’s Cure Crew, finishing 129th out of nearly 800 participants and placing 39th among all female runners with a personal record of 25:25. We are incredibly proud of her determination and strong finishes in both races. Congratulations to Yulisa Ma!
Field Hockey
This athlete is new to the field hockey program, but she has quickly become one of the most critical players on the JV team. A quintessential midfielder, she possesses the vision, versatility and stamina to somehow see everything and be everywhere she’s needed. She’s a literal game changer. This athlete flies like Hermes across the turf. Her drives leave other teams trembling. She tackles and jabs and blocks opponents into submission. She has shown remarkable leadership during lean times, keeping the team competitive and focused when key players were in Costa Rica or sidelined due to injury or illness. And on Oct. 9, 2024, a day that will live in jubilation, this tenacious midi scored the winning goal in a nail-biting match against Hopkins, bringing the JV field hockey team’s long drought to an end. This athlete of the week is none other than Eliza Fausel!

This player stepped up to play a position she’s not entirely familiar with, showcasing her versatility and determination against a tough opponent. Despite the challenge, she delivered outstanding passes and made a great dig, helping to keep the momentum. Her ability to adapt quickly to the new role was evident, and contributed to the team’s overall performance. One of the highlights of the match was her serving streak, where she maintained the longest run of serves in the game, including a phenomenal ace that left the opposing team scrambling. This player’s effort not only energized her teammates but also demonstrated her commitment to stepping outside her comfort zone for the benefit of the team. Congratulations, Helena Hao, on a fantastic performance! Your hard work and willingness to take on new challenges inspire us all. Keep up the great work!

Field Hockey
This player brought intensity and leadership to the field this past week. She always pushes herself and her teammates to play hard and this has helped everyone to improve since the first day of practice. This player dominated the field offensively at Wilbraham and Monson this past weekend, knocking in two goals, and her skilled ball movement gave her teammates several chances to score as well. We are looking forward to seeing this player grow throughout the season and we are excited to see more from her each week! Congrats to Ella Aitken!
