3 Questions with Danielle Fergus, Associate Director of Annual Giving

At Miss Porter’s School, philanthropy fuels our unique and impactful learning environment. In this edition of Porter’s Voices, we sit down with Associate Director of Annual Giving, Danielle Fergus, to learn more about her role and the importance of annual fund giving to the mission of Porter’s.

Your role focuses on annual giving. What inspires you most about the Porter’s community and its ongoing support of the school’s mission?

In my first few weeks on campus, the energy was contagious. Students, faculty, and staff were enjoying the sunshine, meals in the dining hall, and the excitement of spring traditions. From my very first day, I felt genuinely welcomed, not only by the Alumnae and Development team, but by the entire Miss Porter’s community. It is this strong sense of community and belonging that inspires me most. I’m deeply moved by how every student here is given the opportunity to let their talents shine. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of clubs, sports, and affinity groups available, each one creating space for students to feel seen, heard, and valued. This inclusive, supportive environment truly reflects the spirit of Miss Porter’s and its ongoing mission.

What advice would you give to Ancients or supporters who want to make a meaningful difference but aren’t sure where to begin?

My advice is to start by exploring our Ancients social media accounts and past Farmington Give Day pages. These platforms offer a great glimpse into the powerful impact that engagement and philanthropy have on our community. If you’re considering making a gift, even a single contribution to the Annual Fund can go a long way in supporting Porter’s mission and daily operations. Every gift matters and makes a real difference. For those looking to get more involved, we’re always excited to welcome parent and Ancient volunteers to help with outreach. I’d love to have you join us! The best first step is to email me or anyone on the Alumnae and Development team; we’ll help you get started and you’ll see just how impactful your involvement can be.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work, and how do you spend your free time?

Outside of work, I love cooking, reading, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy staying active through swimming, riding my Peloton, and going on walks—especially with our family dogs! I’m always reading or listening to a book, usually a romance or suspense novel. I recently moved to West Hartford and have been having a great time exploring the local restaurants and parks, as well!
