In this edition of Porter’s Voices, we sit down with Director of Facilities Services Tom Charette to learn more about his role at Porter’s.
What are your top priorities for the first year in your role, and how do you see them impacting the campus community?
My top priorities for the first year are focused on three core areas: enhancing safety protocols, modernizing infrastructure, and improving communication and collaboration. These initiatives will have a direct and positive impact on the entire school community, creating a more secure, efficient, and responsive environment for everyone. Our team is dedicated to not just maintaining our beautiful campus but actively shaping it to be a safer, more sustainable place that supports the school’s mission and serves the needs of every student, faculty, and staff member.

What drew you to Miss Porter’s School, and how does its mission align with your professional philosophy in facilities management?
Miss Porter’s School’s rich history and commitment to academic excellence, which has created a strong sense of community, drew me to the position. The school’s legacy of empowering young women to become confident, compassionate, and global-minded leaders is something I find inspiring. I was also impressed by the careful stewardship of the school’s historic campus, which showcases a deep respect for tradition while still embracing the needs of a modern institution. The opportunity to be a part of this legacy and to contribute to the school’s future is what makes this role so compelling.
Can you share any upcoming projects or improvements you’re particularly excited about that will enhance the student, faculty, or visitor experience?
Since I’m new to the role, my team and I are currently conducting a thorough assessment of our facilities and will seek input from the community. This process will ensure any future projects are well-researched and strategically aligned with the school’s long-term vision. I look forward to collaborating with everyone on these efforts, ensuring our campus remains a remarkable place for generations to come.
