Andrea Kan ’92 – 2025 Commencement Speaker

Andrea Kan ‘92 continues the tradition of Ancients being honored as commencement speakers at Miss Porter’s School. This year, we are pleased to announce that she will join our newest Ancients, current students, families and friends at graduation on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Andrea’s career is characterized by her ability to navigate global industries and markets. After Porter’s, she lived in Japan for several years and initially worked in sales for a foreign food packaging company. She would later transition to a new role at the Coca-Cola Company. Her position in strategic sales, planning and marketing led to the development of several amusement and leisure projects in the country.

A later transition to the fashion industry, Andrea expanded brand portfolios and facilitated new business development at a Singaporean fashion conglomerate, Club 21, based in Hong Kong. As the head of Asia development for Mulberry, she was responsible for the brand’s growth in the region through joint venture opportunities. Prior to that, Andrea managed new market development in Asia and brand management in establishing the business for the French fashion brand agnès b in Singapore. The valuable skills and experience at Porter’s enabled Andrea to navigate these industries in the professional world. She shares that she learned to balance assertiveness, maintain her confidence, and lead with grace in different societies,  predominantly male-oriented work culture, particularly in Japan.

A graduate of Middlebury College, Andrea earned a Bachelor of Arts with high honors in Japanese Language and Linguistic Studies while minoring in music and French. Andrea is multilingual and fluent in Chinese, English, French, and Japanese. Ever evolving, Andrea recently earned her Master of Theology degree in 2024 and relies on her faith to guide the path toward her next step of the journey.

Andrea is married with two sons: one is in high school, and the other will enter college in the fall. A true global citizen, she holds dual citizenship in both the United States and Hong Kong, and has also spent her career years in different parts of Asia. Andrea currently resides in London with her younger son; her husband’s legal profession is based out of Hong Kong. Family time together is always precious and as one with varied sports enthusiasts, weekends find them supporting their sons at tennis games or watching Chelsea football matches at Stamford Bridge.

She returns to Farmington this year at a powerful moment of reflection and connection. Andrea’s life journey is evident through a diverse professional landscape that spans across several continents. As an Ancient with deep global roots, we learn from Andrea’s lived experience as she shares valuable wisdom and insights through the years.
