Hailu, Tessa

Teacher - Arts, Dance

Tessa Grunwald is the Director of Dance at Miss Porter’s. She teaches academic studies in Dance Technique, Composition and Choreography, and World Dance History. In the afternoons, she directs our advanced performance company, Dance Workshop. She is a firm believer in the power of the artistic voice, and loves to help students find confidence in theirs. At Miss Porter’s she strives to bring awareness, creativity, and joy into the community through the Arts. She loves the essence of Porter’s, and what it stands for. She finds pride in seeing our young women empowered, uplifted, and supported in anything they set their minds to.

Outside of Porter’s Tessa continues to practice her craft as a professional working artist. She is the co-founder and artistic director of her dance company Immix Dance Project, located in the greater Hartford area, and is also currently pursuing her MFA in Dance in a summer residency at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. When Tessa isn’t dancing, she is spending time with her loved ones and fur babies. She loves the beach, adrenaline filled adventures, and will never pass up an ice cream sundae!
