Santiago grew up in Burgos, Spain. He earned a master’s degree from Universidad de Valladolid, where he studied French; earned a second master’s degree at Université de Rennes in France; and completed doctorate work in quantitative linguistics. After teaching in Spain for one year and in France for two, Santiago came to the United States and taught at the Taft School and Ethel Walker School before coming to Porter’s in 2004. After leading many international trips for Porter’s students, Santiago founded ArchaeoSpain, an organization providing archaeological fieldwork opportunities in Europe for hundreds of high school and college students. He is currently the director of Miss Porter’s Institute for Global Education and serves as an international student advisor and soccer coach. Santiago lives on campus with his three children.
