Schomers, Melissa

Chair - Humanities Dept.

Ms. Schomers graduated with her B.A. from the University of Iowa, where she majored in English, minored in History, and earned a Medieval Studies Certificate. She later went on to Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where she earned her M.A. in Literary Studies. Always a passionate reader and writer, Ms. Schomers developed a love of teaching and coaching while working as an assistant rowing coach, first at the University Iowa then at Trinity College. Athletes who were themselves passionate about their boarding school experiences inspired Ms. Schomers to pursue a career teaching and coaching in independent schools. Before coming to Miss Porter’s, she worked at Blair Academy and then the Gunnery, where she embraced her role as a triple-threat faculty, coaching a variety of sports, teaching all grade levels, and working in dorms.

Ms. Schomers will be teaching English, coaching, and living off campus.
