Marian Smith teaches history and humanities and is originally from upstate New York. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College and her master’s degree from Harvard University.
While pursuing a doctorate in Iranian history and culture at the University of Michigan, she discovered her passion for teaching and guiding students to think like historians. She is excited to be part of Porter’s progressive, interdisciplinary, and close-knit learning community.
Marian has lived and studied in Iran, Tajikistan, India, and Uzbekistan. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, scuba diving, reading, learning new languages, and watching Bravo.
