Dr. Katie Ayers is a humanities teacher specializing in feminism, women’s history, and LGBTQ+ history in the United States and globally – she likes to think of herself as a professional feminist and LGBTQ+ advocate. After attending an all-girls high school, she enlisted as a journalist in the U.S. Air Force before being offered an ROTC scholarship to attend Miami University. In college, she majored in journalism and women’s studies and spent much of her time advocating for feminist and LGBTQ+ causes. She earned a master’s degree in women’s and gender studies and a doctorate in sociology, for which her research focused on women and women-only communities. In 2018, she strengthened her advocacy for more women-only spaces. Katie lives on campus with her wife, Kelly McCray, and their daughter, Zoë.
