Elena Castro is a Spanish teacher at Porter’s, a dorm affiliate, an advisor, and a study hall instructor.
 
When she started working at Porter’s in 2006, she had some years of international teaching experience, but she says she became passionate about teaching during her time at Porter’s. Her education philosophy drives her to prepare students to be critical thinkers and to be informed about the complexities of the world we live in. What she loves about Porter’s is the trust placed in the teachers to develop exciting curriculum that fosters the students’ desire to shape a changing world. Developing new courses and seeing how students embrace challenging topics have been among the most rewarding aspects of her time at Porter’s, she says.
 
Outside of the classroom, Elena is an avid reader of South American literature and an enthusiastic learner about geopolitics.
