Julie earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Brown University while simultaneously fulfilling the requirements for medical school. Hesitant about applying to medical school, she returned to her high school alma mater to teach science and coach swimming. Julie has been teaching in boarding schools ever since, valuing the opportunities they give her to know students beyond the classroom. Her goal is to emphasize to every student that, regardless of their talents, they can enjoy studying science while making significant contributions to the discipline. In her free time, Julie enjoys hiking, drinking tea and reading. Living on campus with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs, she is fully immersed in the Porter’s community
