Please reach out to Elizabeth Simison upon your enrollment.
Once the school year is complete, please contact your child’s school to be sure that they send us the required official transcripts. These records are necessary in order for the Academic Office to create your child’s academic schedule for next year and are required in order for your child to begin classes in September. If your child’s current school closes for the summer, please ensure that these records are sent beforehand. Official transcripts from your school can be scanned and emailed to the Office of Admission, or mailed to: Office of Admission, Miss Porter’s School, 60 Main Street, Farmington, CT 06032.
If your child has been receiving accommodations at their previous school due to a diagnosed disability and will be requesting accommodations in the upcoming school year, please complete the corresponding form in August Schools by June 10 and send all supporting documentation to cwcnurse@missporters.org.
For more information, including the type of documentation required to support a request for accommodations, please review our Policy on the Accommodation of Disabilities. Please reach out to Rebecca Plona with any questions.
Summer Reading information will be sent by email later in the spring.
Athletic Preseason
In early September, Miss Porter’s School hosts athletic preseason for cross country, field hockey, soccer, and volleyball.
Head Varsity Coaches will be in touch by mid-June to invite selected athletes to attend preseason. Athletic preseason is not mandatory nor a tryout, and attendance does not impact an athlete’s standing on a team.
Please note that preseason is designed for varsity level preparation and is separate from team tryouts, which will take place on September 9 and 10.
- Students must confirm their attendance by Monday, July 6.
- All student health forms must be completed in August Schools by Friday, August 28 in order for athletes to participate in any preseason activities.
- Selected preseason athletes should plan to arrive on campus on Thursday, September 3 between 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
- Preseason will conclude on Sunday, September 6 in the evening.
- Students are welcome to remain on campus following preseason for the arrival of Old Girls on Monday and New Girls on Tuesday.
Specific questions regarding preseason and general questions regarding athletics should be directed to the Athletics Department.
FAQ
Every New Girl is paired with a senior Old Girl who serves as a mentor or “big sister” during the New Girl year. Old Girls help New Girls acclimate to Porter’s by means of this special relationship and a series of Old Girl/New Girl events throughout the year.
New Girls will hear from their Old Girls over the summer by email, phone, text, or letter. Some Old Girls and New Girls arrange to meet in person prior to the start of the school year.
We use the New Girl Questionnaire to help pair New Girls and Old Girls (see downloads below).
Please refer to the school’s updated Attendance Policy for comprehensive information regarding absences and attendance requirements.
Miss Porter’s School promotes and celebrates self-expression. We have confidence in our students to make the decisions regarding dress that best support and maximize their learning.
There are some general expectations for student dress, which include that students must wear bottoms, tops, shoes, and clothing that covers private body parts with opaque material. Students should be dressed in clothing that allows for full participation in academic, artistic, or athletic activities when necessary.
Click here to review the full dress code.
Families are welcome and encouraged to attend games, performances, and special events, both on campus and virtually. We also have formal volunteer opportunities for parents and guardians seeking a larger role in school life. These include:
- Parent Leadership Committee (PLC), which works to connect Porter’s families to one another and the school through engagement opportunities, fundraising support, and helpful resources.
- Parent Admission Association (PAA), who serve as invaluable ambassadors in our effort to enroll exceptional students for each incoming class.
- Porter’s Family Ambassadors, who serve as local host families for our new international students.
New boarding students complete a questionnaire, which includes questions regarding living habits. We try to make the best possible matches based on students’ responses. When roommate matches are made, students are placed in dorms and corridors based on similar grade levels.
New Girls receive their housing assignments in August prior to Opening Day.
If you would like to ship items to School, please clearly label each box according to the sample address here. Boxes should not be shipped until mid-August when dorm assignments are released, as boxes will be delivered directly to the student’s dorm room.
Please note that you are shipping at your own risk. Porter’s cannot be held responsible for missing packages. If you are shipping a package with a high monetary value we encourage you to ask for a signature upon delivery, you can reach out to the Office of Student Life for assistance.
Each dorm is equipped with a no-cost washer and dryer for student use.
For a fee, an off-campus laundry service is available through E&R The Campus Laundry. E&R will send students information over the summer regarding its services. Families who choose to sign up their student for the laundry service are asked to do so online. Dorm pick-up and drop-off services occur once a week.
For a fee, an off campus service is available through Student Health Advocates should you need unaccompanied minor and/or a local guardian service. Please plan to make advance arrangements should you need one or both of these special services.
The unaccompanied minor service often includes arranging for a chaperone to accompany you to the gate and stay with you until departure, but each airline has individual requirements so please contact them well in advance.
The emergency contact representation service enables the parent/guardian to use Student Health Advocates as an emergency contact should you have no other representation within the designated distance required by school.
Students can sign up for a school shuttle to take them to the Hartford bus and train station or Bradley International Airport for school breaks. Prior to each long weekend and break, students will be able to sign up for shuttle transportation using Orah. School provided transportation will not be offered until the end of the academic day so as to encourage students to remain in class if their travel plans allow.
Students seeking to depart from a major metropolitan area airport will be provided with a list of verified car services. Students and families may arrange transportation on their own or in smaller groups based on individual travel details and needs and should contact services directly for airport destination information, fee structures, passenger and luggage capacity information, and unaccompanied minor services.
Day Student FAQ
Day students can be dropped off any time after 6:15 a.m. Upon arrival, students typically store their sports equipment and afternoon program items in Cottage or the Senior Day Student Room. Before breakfast opens at 7:30 a.m., students can finish homework assignments, use the fitness center, or engage in quiet activities.
Following breakfast, day students attend their regular school day commitments, including classes, lunch, and practice or afternoon program sessions. While many day students are picked up after their afternoon requirements, some choose to stay for dinner, which begins at 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.
Yes! Day students are welcome to attend evening hours in the Q-Lab, Language Lab, and Writing Studio. Additionally, 9th and 10th-grade students may opt into Supported Evening Study Hall (SESH), which takes place in the Periodicals Room Mondays through Thursdays from 7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., from the start of school until March break begins.
We ask that attendance plans remain consistent by day of the week (for example, attending every Monday and Wednesday). Interested students and their parents or guardians should contact Whitney Boyajian in the Academic Office to sign up.
Absolutely! Day students are always welcome to enjoy meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on campus during the week and on weekends. Meal times are posted outside the dining hall for easy reference.
Yes! We love having day students spend as much time on campus as possible. Day students are just as welcome to attend weekend activities as boarding students and are encouraged to come to campus to hang out in the dorms or around campus on weekends.
Sleepovers are encouraged and typically only permitted on Saturday nights to avoid interfering with Saturday programming or games, though exceptions are made for special occasions or circumstances.
In addition to their athletic and art commitments, day students are required to attend Sit-Down Dinners and various speakers. Any required event will be clearly marked as “required” on the calendar in MyPorters.
Day students are also strongly encouraged to attend all Traditions and grade-level events.
For everyone’s safety and convenience, we ask that families only drop off and pick up at two designated locations:
- 3 Porter Road (Porter Road Loop)
- 69 Garden Street (Tennis Court Loop)
These locations provide safe spaces for stopping, allow students to enter and exit safely, and offer parking spaces should a parent or guardian need one.
The school keeps day families informed through several communication channels. General campus news, essential updates, and administrative reminders are shared through News and Notes, our biweekly newsletter, while emails are sent periodically with information specific to the day student experience. For urgent matters such as weather-related delays and cancellations, families receive timely BrightArrow notifications.
The school uses BrightArrow, an opt-in notification system, to send text messages to students and parents/guardians as early as possible with information about inclement weather. This system is also used for last-minute schedule changes and various updates.
While we occasionally delay the start of classes, school does not normally fully suspend classes or activities for winter weather conditions unless extreme. Day student families are asked to exercise caution and make their own decisions about the safety of travel to and from school based on their specific circumstances. Weather-related delays or absences are excused and students are not penalized.
Balancing independence with appropriate structure in these areas helps day students thrive both academically and personally. Key areas to establish structure around include:
- Technology use – Set clear boundaries for device usage.
- Study hours – Maintain consistent homework and study time.
- Sleep – Ensure adequate rest with regular bedtime routines.
- Ana Calciano Pratt: primary contact until December
- Stacy Martell: returning in December
- General Student Life inquiries: studentlife@missporters.org
You can always reach out to any of these contacts with questions or concerns about your day student’s experience.

Bringing Medications/Pharmaceutical Products to School
If a student will bring any pharmaceutical products to school (including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, supplements, or holistic/naturopathic remedies), students and families must review and attend to the following information carefully:
international students
At Porter’s, we consider an international student to be any student who lives outside the United States, regardless of citizenship or immigrant status. This is to ensure all international students receive additional resources and support during their time at Porter’s.
Please see our comprehensive guide below that outlines international student logistics, including health insurance inquiries, visa and passport requirements, transportation for major breaks, and New Girl International Student Arrival and Orientation. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Admission. We look forward to welcoming you in person in September!
business office
For families who will be initiating payments to School with non U.S. currency, Miss Porter’s School has partnered with Flywire to streamline the tuition payment process. With Flywire, you are offered excellent foreign exchange rates, allowing you to pay in your home currency (in most cases) and save a significant amount of money in bank fees, as compared to traditional banks. Your student’s debit account can also be funded through this feature. You will be notified via email when your payment is received.
Go to Flywire.com and search “Miss Porter’s School” to begin the payment process. For any questions, please contact Flywire support.
Students may need to access cash on campus for student activities, fundraisers, and shopping at the school store. Miss Porter’s School facilitates the availability of cash through an application called MyKidsSpending (MKS). MKS offers a safe and secure website where parents/guardians can view their student’s debit account balance and transaction detail online, as well as fund the account if desired. An email from MyKidsSpending with full instructions on how to set up the account will be sent in mid-August.
You may make deposits to the debit account via MKS or by sending a check to Miss Porter’s School, 60 Main Street, Farmington, CT, 06032 ATTN: Business Office. Please write Debit Account and the student’s name on the check. A minimum $50 balance is recommended. The MKS feature is the only way to view activity on your student’s debit account.
Please review this information about MKS and if you have additional questions please contact Jen Wagor.
It information
Every student is required to have their own laptop: Purchasing a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air (Tahoe 26.3 or higher) is highly encouraged. An iPad or tablet with a keyboard is NOT recommended as a primary device.
We strongly recommend Macbooks for a variety of reasons. The IT department offers a robust help desk service and our technician is very knowledgeable with Apple products and can help students with a variety of issues. For hardware issues that can’t be fixed onsite, there is an Apple store near campus, or students can have Apple ship a box to school to facilitate a repair. Miss Porter’s can provide a short-term loaner (up to 14 days) so students will have a machine while theirs is repaired. We also have spare power cables and adapters available to be borrowed if one is forgotten or fails. In addition, we have Apple TVs in every classroom, making it easy for students to project and share their work.
Please note, there are courses where students are required to use applications native to Macs. The IT department cannot provide a long-term loaner for students who choose not to use an Apple device.
We Highly Recommended:
- 256 GB or more of storage.
- 4-year AppleCare Protection Plan for your device(s) (does NOT cover water damage).
- A protective cover for your device and your keyboard (most of the issues we see are the result of water damage!)
Please contact Director of Technology Cheryl Costello with any additional technology questions.
Students will have access to the following applications:
- Google G Suite for Education account, which includes a Porter’s Gmail account, as well as Google docs, spreadsheets, and slides.
- Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) which is a free, licensed version of Office 365. (Instructions for download and installation will be provided during the opening days of school).
- Porter’s requires an anti-virus software solution be installed on your computer. Anti-virus software must be kept active and up to date during the duration of your student’s time at Miss Porter’s School.
All students are required to have a headshot photo for the school directory and for a student I.D. card. Please send the photo to The Office of Admission in May. Be sure to include the student’s name in the email.
The photo should measure at minimum 2 inches by 3 inches with a resolution of at least 150 ppi (300 x 500 pixels). These do not have to be professional photos, a photo taken with a cell phone is fine, as long as it is clear. Please submit no later than June 1.
Porter’s communicates with families primarily through electronic newsletters, emails and MyPorter’s (behind the password.) To make sure that you receive all group emails and notifications please add the following email addresses to your email program’s address book:
Summer Programs
Through Porter’s Center for Global Leadership (PCGL), we offer on-campus summer programs for girls entering grades 6-9. We highly recommend “Summer in Farmington” as a summer orientation for incoming 9th graders, as it enables them to experience life on campus and develop relationships in advance of the school year.
