Cross Country
The Cross Country coaches would like to recognize a runner who has been a steady and inspiring presence for the team over the past two years. Despite facing setbacks with injuries, she has shown exceptional perseverance and commitment, steadily rebuilding her strength and making remarkable progress along the way. Her strong finish and personal best at the Founders’ League Championship helped secure our fifth-place team finish. Then, at the Division I New England Championship, she capped off her high school cross country career with a courageous effort on a challenging course against tough competition. As a captain, she has led by example, demonstrating the resilience, determination, and team spirit that define the best of cross country. Congrats to the indomitable Evana Jang!
Equestrian
This athlete had a double header for IEA shows this weekend. It was two long days of competition and she finished the weekend taking home first place in her flat class. Congratulations Thea Fletcher!

Cross Country
This runner has made a great impact on our team. Though she was initially reluctant to race, she has made a difference in every race she has run. It is no surprise that when she races, we tend to win! On Saturday, she came fifth for our team, 52nd overall and secured our fifth place spot at the Founder’s League Championship! We are so happy to nominate Charlotte Guthrie for Athlete of the Week!
JV Soccer
This athlete has been a brick wall and a safety blanket on defense all year. In our last game against Choate on their senior day, she once again led our defense to a shutout, winning 2-0. As our center back and captain, she has willed the JV soccer team to 9 consecutive shutouts and 11 in total. She is a force on defense and we will surely miss her presence both on and off the field next year as she moves on to college, where I hope she continues playing soccer in some capacity. The Athlete of the Week nomination is Annabelle Horst!

Soccer
This week’s honor could have gone to any number of players from Varsity Soccer, a team currently off to an incredible start, 10 and 0 in WWNEPSSA and 1 and 1 overall. But one player stood out for her consistent impact in two massive Class A wins last week. This student athlete was instrumental in both victories, showcasing a relentless engine, fierce tenacity, and unmatched work ethic that she brings to every training session and match. On Wednesday, facing a U.S. Youth National Team player in the midfield, this player was the unsung hero, breaking up attacks, linking play, and competing with poise and maturity well beyond her years. She was exceptional in the win over Loomis, a team Varsity Soccer has not lost to since 2013. This student continued her strong form against Sacred Heart, again proving her versatility and influence in the center of the park. Winning doesn’t come easy, it often comes down to inches. But effort? That’s a choice. And if you want a perfect example of what relentless effort looks like, just watch this week’s Athlete of the Week in training. Congratulations to Grace Gouvin!
Thirds Soccer
This player has impressed everyone with her rapid growth, determination, and impact on the Thirds Soccer team. Week after week, she continues to surprise her coaches, teammates, and even opponents, with her skill, consistency, and strong competitive spirit. Her teammates know they can rely on her in any situation, and her improvement and growth throughout the season has been nothing short of remarkable. In our game this week against Loomis, she delivered an outstanding performance, blocking numerous shots and keeping the team in the game with her incredible reflexes and composure. She has become a cornerstone of the team’s success, demonstrating the instincts and resilience of a true competitor, and she is the best goalkeeper we could have asked for. Congratulations, Uju N.
Cross Country
Our third athlete of the week goes to Bella McLaughlin for her outstanding performance throughout the season. A few weeks ago in our first meet at AOF, Bella broke 20 minutes for a 5k for the first time with a time of 19:42. Since then she has broken 20 two more times (and came very close a third time). This feat is incredible on its own. It is, however, more impressive when one considers that Bella has done this without any competition, often finishing minutes before the next runner. On Saturday at AOF she set out PR again, and she did so with a time of 19:23. This is a course record and the second one she has set in a row– she set the course record at Kent from our October 11 meet. We can’t wait to see what she does going into our final championship races! For the second time this season, please join me in congratulating the legend, Bella McGaughlin!

Field Hockey
This athlete has been a leader on the field hockey team in lots of different ways this season. She is a hard-working athlete and role model for other players, she hustles all over the field to make plays happen, and she encourages her teammates to keep going when they get frustrated. In our game versus KO last Monday, this player was on fire. She played on the forward line and also as a midfielder and she brought great intensity and determination to the game which culminated in an amazing goal in the final quarter of the match to seal the victory for Porter’s. Everyone continues to be inspired by her outstanding play on the field each week and we look forward to many more goals and assists from this player! Congrats to Ella Aitken!
Volleyball
This Varsity Volleyball player absolutely deserves Athlete of the Week for her amazing performances in both matches last week. She finished both matches with more than five digs and five kills in each match, in addition to five aces against Pomfret! She was a huge part of our hard fought win against Pomfret. Her consistency is so strong. Congratulations to Annie Tang!

JV Volleyball
This player has been an incredible asset to JV volleyball. Her energy and encouragement have carried us through our first wins and hard-fought losses. She continuously pushes her teammates to be better and has taken up the job of captain with confidence and kindness. Strong serves, great defense, and love of the game. Congratulations, Inga Johnson!
Field Hockey
Since preseason, this varsity field hockey athlete has been working hard each day to help her team grow and succeed. In the past week, this player showed how tough and talented she is. She played in both the midfield and defensive back positions and she contributed to the success of the offense in our game vs. St. Luke’s on Saturday. She always gives 100%, and she is a role model for everyone on the team. Without this player on the field, our team would not be as successful! Congratulations to our athlete of the week, Lily McLellan!

Cross Country
In her second year on the team and first season as captain, this athlete has already shown that she is a steady, positive leader. Even last year, her teammates could see the natural leadership qualities that have now come to full expression. She guided the group through preseason, set a tone of focus and encouragement, and at the recent meet against Taft, she went above and beyond by supporting an injured teammate in a moment of need. We are so grateful to have her as a captain this year. Congratulations to Caroline Callahan for being nominated as Athlete of the Week!
At the recent meet against Taft, this junior cross country runner delivered an outstanding performance that helped secure the team’s victory. Not only did she cross the finish line first, but she did so a full two minutes ahead of the top Taft competitor, impressing even the opposing coaches with her strength and form. Congratulations to Bella McLaughlin for being nominated as Athlete of the Week!

JV Field Hockey
Cries of victory rang out in Farmington on Wednesday. The JV field hockey team scored not once, not twice, but thrice in its win against West Hartford. Spearheading this domination was a predatory, lightning-quick forward whose flawless positioning and relentless aggression delivered two crushing goals that sealed our team’s triumphant conquest. A viper coiled in perfect stillness, she struck with lightning precision, her stick flicking the ball past defenders in fluid motions that left them dumbfounded. With such masterful dominance on the field, this athlete deserves to wear the laurel crown. The athlete of the week is Ivy Kim!
JV Soccer
The JV soccer team has started this season on a strong note. As the group adjusts to new players and continues learning how to play together as a unit, we are fortunate to have this athlete, who has been part of our program for several years, leading the way. At practice, she consistently brings a positive and easygoing attitude. On game days, her focus is unwavering. Whenever she steps on the pitch, she positions herself intelligently to receive the ball and shows great determination to protect it from opponents. Her natural ability to read the game allows her to be in the right place at the right time, and that instinct has led her to score key goals for our team. As this is her senior year, we are making the most of every moment with her – both on and off the field. Her leadership, energy, and scoring ability are invaluable to our team, and her impact is felt in every match. So far, she has scored twice in each of the two games we’ve played, setting the tone for our season. We are proud and excited to recognize Kate Koster as our Athlete of the Week!
