Winter 2025-2026 Athletes of the Week

March 2, 2026

JV Basketball

This athlete of the week is a JV Basketball player with a remarkably positive attitude. They are incredibly hard-working both on and off the court, showing true dedication to their teammates and technique. During our game against Taft, they were an outstanding defensive player, coming up with some huge steals that contributed to our big win. Their hustle and energy make them a vital part of our team and we’ll miss her and her skills so much next season. Congratulations Carly Wilkes!

Swimming & Diving

This athlete of the week has worked really hard the last 2 weeks in preparation for Founder’s and New Englands. She has learned three new dives in that time, all over the 2.0 DD (that means the difficulty of the dive), and has significantly improved her front double. She had a PR at the meet on senior day while completing her hardest diving list yet. Congratulations to Ava Johnson!

Ski

This athlete came to the team as an outgoing and friendly freshman with zero ski racing experience. Always listening to her coach’s advice, always doing her best with any and all dryland and on-snow skill drills and exercises, and always having fun with a grin from ear to ear. She has steadily improved her skiing and racing skills in her two years on the team, but recently started working on improving her focus while in the race course which has helped her skiing skills, and keep her in the gates to the finish line. In the recent Brigham Ski League JV Slalom – showing tremendous improvement in her racing skills – she placed 3rd overall and 1st for Girls – skiing two near-perfect runs. Congratulations to Claire Ewald!

Thirds Basketball

This athlete missed the first four weeks of practice due to injury, but immediately jumped into action once cleared to play. She made her mark from the first practice back from break, and in our first game at Northfield Mount Hermon on January 7, she worked incredibly hard on both ends of the floor, grabbing rebounds away from taller competitors and hustling back on defense, and bringing the ball up the floor several times. She is also a kind and considerate teammate and always shows up to practice with a big smile, ready to learn. We can’t wait to see what she does this week! Please congratulate Athlete of the Week, Sasha Sondheimer!

Swimming & Diving

The Swim and Dive team travelled to Kent two Wednesdays ago and lit the pool on fire. While the entire team swam fast and dove with grace, four performances stood out for shattering long-standing pool records. The meet opened with the medley relay team of Bella Zurolo, Savannah Bowers, Sarah Henderson and Lauren Moore breaking a record held by Loomis since 2009. The momentum continued through to the final event, where the 400 freestyle relay team of Bella Zurolo, Sarah Henderson, Vivian Volenec and Savannah Bowers broke another Loomis record from 2017. Between these relay victories, Savannah Bowers delivered two strong individual performances, breaking a Westminster record in the Individual Medley along with ancient Marisa Chow ’20’s long-standing mark in the 100 breaststroke. For her role in both record breaking relays and her two individual pool records, we nominate Savannah Bowers for Athlete of the Week!

Ski

This athlete is in her first year as a member of the Porter’s Alpine Race Team. She came to the team as a quiet, friendly freshman. She worked hard during dryland training, improving her strength, coordination, balance, agility, and power. Always listening to her coach’s advice, and always doing her best with any and all dryland and on snow skill drills and exercises. She also came to the team with prior experience skiing and racing in northern Vermont. Once the Porter’s team got on snow in early January, she established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the Brigham Ski League. She came in 1st for Girls and 2nd overall in her first JV race, and has consistently earned points, placing in the top three for the Porter’s team in our Varsity races. This week’s Athlete of the Week is Ella Panaro!

JV Basketball

This athlete is a standout on the JV Basketball team. In her second year of being on the team, she’s become a core player on the court. You can count on her to get past anyone in a game; no one can get in her way of scoring. Speaking of scoring, JV played KO this past Wednesday, and we can thank this athlete for scoring 8 points in the game. What is she if not versatile? She dominates the defensive line and is somehow always in the right spot at the right time. She is always bringing leadership and quick thinking to the court. She does all of this while being the best teammate you could hope for. You know her, you love her, congratulations to this athlete of the week, Paloma Zayas!
