As Director of Admission at an independent school, Sarah is often the first person people meet and is vital in supporting our community and in building a strong and collaborative relationship with students, faculty, staff and families.
Here are 3 questions to get to know her better:
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work, and how do you like to spend your free time?
I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking or walking with my family and our dog, Dewey. Reading is another passion of mine, and I make an effort to dive into the books students recommend during their interviews. Additionally, I love to travel and explore new cultures and experiences, which always broadens my perspective and enriches my work.
What motivates you to come to work every day, and how do you stay engaged and productive?
Our mission statement and the privilege of witnessing it come to life in real and tangible ways motivates me each day. Our students truly embody the idea of shaping a changing world, and I see this reflected in the classroom, on the athletic fields, in the studios, and through the meaningful relationships they build with one another. It’s incredibly inspiring to work alongside smart, curious, and happy students who are deeply committed to making a positive impact in the world. I’m energized by the opportunity to support the remarkable young women here and to welcome new students who will contribute to the future of Miss Porter’s School.
Can you tell us about your background and what you love most about working at Porter’s?
I am a graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon, a co-ed boarding school, where my transformative experience sparked my passion for education. My professional journey began as a teacher and coach, eventually leading me to the field of admissions. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working at various day, boarding, and international schools, all of which hold a special place in my heart. However, my time at Porter’s has been truly unparalleled. What I cherish most is witnessing the incredible growth of our students during their time here, maintaining connections with them long after they graduate, and watching what they do in the future. The enduring sense of community at Porter’s is what makes it extraordinary.
