International Women’s Day

Spoken Word

Today is International Women’s Day

A day to celebrate women’s achievements

We represent the women of Miss Porter’s School

Now, in the future and the women that came before us

Such is our calling

Why us?

Because we choose to challenge gender bias

From that challenge comes change

Away from the inequality that plagues us

We seek an inclusive world, while you see girls

When you should say I see justice warriors before us

The silence was broken long ago and continues to grow

So, call out!

Breakdown sexism

We work just as hard – why should we make less than men?

It is not right

We press on in the fight

As the wage gap narrows, we will not dim our light

The gap stands at .81 cents per dollar, but we won’t rest even when that becomes dollar to dollar

International Women’s Day must carry farther

Each day we must remember our achievements

So, call out!

Call out!

I said: call out!

I choose to challenge, because I want change

Call out. No more pre conceived notions

No limitations

No gender bias

No inequality

Call out. Choose to challenge

Make a change
