Miss Porter’s School is pleased to introduce Courtney Grant as the new Campus Safety Supervisor. Grant began her tenure at Miss Porter’s School (MPS) in September 2019, and was primarily assigned to the overnight shift. She eventually transitioned to the evening shift, and has enjoyed the opportunity to interact with students and faculty. She has been impressed by the welcoming sense of community – and was pleased to accept the promotion in November 2020. In her new role, Grant aims to implement a multitiered approach to ensuring that the campus and the community within are protected while also incorporating safety and security programs throughout MPS. Grant is also interested to learn what the students and the Porter’s community expect from the campus safety team.

Grant comes to MPS after a successful 20-year career with the West Hartford Police Department (WHPD). She began her career at WHPD in the late 1990’s, and was primarily assigned to the Patrol and Traffic Divisions. With the Community Relations Division, she taught age-appropriate safety curriculum as well as conducted presentations to civic organizations on various laws and safety related topics. Continuing education is important to Grant and she has taken several training classes in a wide variety of topics. These skills have enhanced her performance as a police officer, and have also positioned her for success at Porter’s.

A graduate of Springfield College, Grant earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations. At Springfield, she served on the Executive Board as the class of 1999 representative, while also serving as Vice President from 1996 – 1998.  Other leadership positions held included membership on the Judicial Board and participation in New Student Orientation.

Grant is an avid traveler and to date has visited over 25 countries on 5 continents. When not traveling or working, you will likely find Grant spinning at a local studio in Canton or planning her next vacation. She already has a trip to Argentina booked in the fall when the world opens back up. Raised in Naugatuck, Connecticut, Grant currently lives in Canton with her husband Ray, stepdaughter Emily, and two adorable cats Gabbana and Tito.

When asked what her favorite thing is about being a police or safety officer, she shares it is getting to know people from different walks of life and knowing that she could be of assistance if they needed it.  She shares every day was different, and the job has equipped her with the experience and ability to be independently decisive while working within a team’s framework.

Miss Porter’s School is pleased to welcome Courtney Grant to the team!
